On the weekend of November 8-9, 2003, the last stop of 2003 for the Hunter
Classics Amateur Women's Tour was also a celebration of their successful
run of Ten Years. This "Ten Year Anniversary Party" for the Hunter Classics
Tour engraved their historic longevity and exceptional following, as the
Hunter Classics Tour is the largest, longest running, highest paying Regional
Women's Tour in the country!
Vicki and Ed McKillop,
owners of Big Daddy's in Alvin, TX, were great hosts to the party and gave
away over 100 gifts to the ladies. There were also many items raffled
off, including signed WPBA posters, 4 local cues, and of course the always
beautiful and expensive Hunter Classics Custom Cue. The Hunter Classics Custom Cue for this
stop was valued at $1,900 and the owner's daughter won the cue (which is
always raffled off right before the finals), and we were all pleased and
thought it was well-deserved because of all their hard work to make this stop
a great success for 6 years now.
At the final stop of the year, we crown the Most Improved Player and Tour
Champion. The nominees for Most Improved Player were a plenty as many of
the ladies keep improving each year, and this year the title was awarded
deservedly to Rachel Hurst of Austin, TX who has improved in the standings,
her finishes, consistency and mentally. When awarded the prize in front of
her peers, she held back the tears of thanks and sincere appreciation of
her recognition as everyone clapped and whistled in agreement of her successes
this past year.
The Hunter Classics Tour Champion wasn't decided until late on Sunday, as several
of the ladies in the tournament were in contention. Leslie Anne Rogers
won this stop on Sunday evening (her first win this year) and then also claimed the Hunter Classics
Tour Champion title for earning the most points over the season on the Tour.
This is the third year In A Row she has won this title - a first
in the history of Hunter Classics Tour. This record will be tough to
beat in the years to come. Congratulations, Leslie Anne, on another great
year!
Runner-Up to the Tour Champion was Lisa Marr from Little Rock, Arkansas.
Lisa fought hard for this spot, including winning both of the last two tournaments.
Congratulations, Lisa on a great year!
During the player's meeting on Saturday morning,
the board members were surprised with flowers and a large thank you card from the ladies.
The board appreciated the gifts and recognition and we thank everyone
again for their help in making this tour a joy to run for all the women who
love to play pool! On Saturday evening, the Hunter Classics Tour had
a Pizza Party! Everyone was very happy to eat free pizza
and help celebrate Ten Years of the Tour.
Forty Five women competed in this stop, many were from Texas, but some
traveled from Louisiana, Arkansas and Colorado. While Leslie Anne Rogers
won the tournament, she also won the WPBA Qualifier and $750 for her first
place finish. Deanna Henson, from the Austin area, came in second and won
$555. Deanna had several hill-hill matches throughout the tournament and
even beat Leslie Anne the first set in the finals 7-5. In the second set,
Deanna started off strong winning the first 3 games. However, on the fourth
game she broke and made the 9 ball but scratched. The tide turned to Leslie
when she was able to do a 9 ball carom and then broke the next game and made
the 9. This was the change of the match and Leslie won the second set 7-4.
Lisa Marr had a great tournament as well, defeating most of her opponents
on Saturday with lopsided scores and won $400 for her third place finish.
Another Austin player, Heather Pulford, was finally able to play in a Hunter
event this year and it proved to be very beneficial as she played great all
weekend and placed 4th and won $240 for her finish.
In the second chance tournament, Melinda Bailey (one of the board members)
won the tournament out of 30 women. Mini tournaments were held on Saturday
to raise even more money to the already $100 added tournament. Jennifer
Kraber came in second and Michelle Cortez came in third. Both of these
Austin ladies played great and had fun.
The Ladies and supporters of the Hunter Classics Amateur Women's Tour would
like to give a BIG Thank You to Wes Hunter for his ten year continued dedication to
the Tour! Wes donates a Hunter Classics Cue to each stop to help raise
the guaranteed added money of $2,000 to each tournament! Because
of his support and true integrity, women from all across the country have
a well-established tour to play in. Thank You, Wes.
