Legend's Billiards and Grill
Legend's
Billiards and Grill in Brenham, TX hosted the 6th stop of 2004 for the ladies
of the Hunter Classics Amateur Women's Tour. Legend's Billiards and
Grill is located in the historic section of downtown Brenham - with 14 eight
foot tables, two nine foot tables and excellent food, this poolroom was an
excellent setting for the ladies. Thanks goes to the owners Ted Dean
and Georgia who hosted this event for us.
A lot of good matches occurred on Saturday, including
one particular match entitled 'the battle of the ages.' Ashley Taylor,
only 12 years old, played Lucille Donahue, 64 years old, early in the day.
To Lucille's surprise, Ashley Taylor tied the score at 5-5 and then
defeated Lucille 7-6 for the win!
Lucille handled the loss professionally and Ashley Taylor won her first match
in her first big tournament. Ashley wasn't the only youngster in the
tournament - Chelsea Dean also played well and we will be seeing her in the
future.
On Sunday, only 8 players were left out of 36. On
the winner's side, Rachel Hurst from Austin Tara McCracken from Dallas were
having a tight match with Rachel winning 7-5. The other match on the
winner's side saw Kelly Fisher from North Carolina sending travel mate Miyuki
Sakai from Florida to the one-loss side with a score of 7-2. Kelly
and Rachel then squared off for the winner's bracket final with Kelly winning
7-2.
Melinda Bailey, one of the Board Members, was defeated by Tara 7-4 while
Miyuki defeated Heather Pulford from Austin 7-3. Melinda and Heather
placed 5th/6th and earned $150 each. Tara and Miyuki then played each
other for the 4th place spot With the match tied at 5-5, Miyuki pulled
ahead to win 7-5. This set up the 3rd place match where Miyuki and
Rachel swapped games until it was tied at 5-5, then Miyuki pulled ahead again
for the 7-5 win, earning Miyuki another shot against Kelly. However,
Kelly had other things on her mind as she quickly led the match 6-2. Miyuki
won a couple of more games, but Kelly prevailed 7-4 to win the first place
prize of $750 and the WPBA Qualifier to a WPBA 2005 event. Kelly had
an entire tournament of lop sided scores - the highest number of games anyone
could get against her was 4, and that was achieved only twice - by Miyuki
in the finals and Val Finnie, Kelly's roommate, early in the tournament.
Miyuki earned $560 for second place, Rachel earned $400 for 3rd place, and
Tara earned $270 for 4th place. Congratulations to all the ladies!
Kelly and Miyuki
The Second Chance tournament was won by Leslie Anne Rogers with second place
going to Natalie Mans who had a great tournament. Natalie won $85 and
Leslie anne won $120.
