HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR
LAST
HUNTER TOUR STOP OF 1999 AT BIG DADDY'S
by Shelly Barnes
The last
Hunter Tour Stop of 1999 was held at Big Daddy's in Alvin, Texas on November
13-14. Owners Vicki and Ed McKillop were terrific hosts for the final
event of 1999! Big Daddy's has a wonderful atmosphere with plenty
of 8-foot tables and all the players love spending the weekend there.
Many raffle ticket items were auctioned off including a lamp, photo albums,
a wreath and many others. Lucille Donahue was the coordinator for
this event and she did a fine job, along with the rest of the Hunter Tour
Board Members. Lucille scheduled the Bud Light Girls on Saturday
night (see pictures on the web site) and they gave away beer to all the
players and spectators.
Neil Blank
came up from Austin and was an exceptional Tournament Director for this
event. The matches went off smoothly and stayed on time the entire
weekend. Mike Ross was on hand to tape the matches for the players
and help referee during the tournament. The service was friendly
and all the ladies were well taken care of. This final event of the
season sported 52 players competing for $750 and a WPBA qualifier.
Congratulations
to Lisa Marr on her first Hunter Tour Championship! She pocketed
$750 and a WPBA entry to an event of her choice in 2000. Nancy French,
who had her highest finish ever, placed 2nd and received $550
for her terrific effort. Melanie Koger had a fine tournament, placing
3rd and also winning the 1999 Hunter Tour Championship in a
playoff with Shelly Barnes. Judy Byam and Melanie Koger received
Most Improved Player Awards. After examining the performance of these
two players in 1999, the Board Members chose to give both players the award.
Both of them won their first Hunter Tour Event in 1999, Judy in Arlington
and Melanie in Denver. Congratulations to these two ladies; they
will both receive free entry into the Hunter Tour Events in 2000!
There were
many new names in the top 10 and from the exceptional play I saw this weekend,
I'm sure there are going to be many more. The 2nd Chance
Event saw 24 women compete for the $110 first place and Cynthia Ferrer
defeated Jennifer Kraber for that honor. An anonymous donor threw
in an extra $50 for these ladies who came back on Sunday to play another
9-ball tournament (we just can't get enough). Check out the pictures
on the Hunter Tour Web Site (www.hunterclassics.com).
There were
three cues raffled off. Lucille Donahue won the Rhino, Eugene Evans
won the Jerry Olivier Cue, and Dan Freeman won the gorgeous Wes Hunter
Custom Cue. The Hunter Tour Board Members and players, and all those
who enjoy pool, sincerely appreciate all the support shown throughout 1999
from all of our sponsors.
All the
ladies want to thank Wes for his long-time support of this Tour.
If it weren't for his generosity, this tour would not be possible.
Thank you Wes and Cindy for your continued support to the success of women's
pool.
