Then, it was time to play pool. With
54 women, It might have seemed like there would be a lot of noise, but the
only noise being made were the quiet defeats as many players moved along
in the tournament to meet on Sunday where there were only 12 players left.
When play started on Sunday, almost half of the players were still in line
to possibly win the qualifier. One of those players competing for the qualifier
was Japanese player Saeko Mori who made the trip to Texas along with Miyuki
Sakai who was fresh off of tournament wins in Korea and Virginia. Sakai failed
to make the Sunday matches this time, and Mori was eliminated in 9th place.
Michelle Cortez and Jennifer Kraber from Austin, and Belinda Lee from Houston, also placed 9th.
Newcomer Teresa Bordelon from Louisiana placed 7th/8th along with Anne Mayes,
the Annie O cuemaker. Ellen Van Buren from Florida placed 5th/6th,
along with Nicole Menitz from Austin - who had her highest finish yet on
the tour. 7th/8th paid $130 and 5th/6th paid $165. Rachel Hurst from
Austin had another great tournament placing 4th and earning $300. Congratulations
to all of these women!
Both Leslie Anne Rogers and Tara McCracken (both from the Dallas area) cruised
through their Saturday matches not allowing an opponent to win more than
four games against them the entire way. They met early Sunday afternoon
for the winner's bracket seat, which Leslie Anne won.
Tara McCracken then defeated Heather Pulford 7-3 to set up a rematch with
Leslie Anne. Heather is another great player from Austin, and she earned
$430 for her fine play and 3rd place finish. In the finals, the close
final score of 7-5 was won by Leslie Anne who took the win and earned $750
in addition to the WPBA Qualifier. Tara earned $600 for her great second
place finish.

Our sponsor, Wes Hunter, of Hunter Classics Custom Cues provided a beautiful
cue again - this one valued at a record breaking $2,600! This is the
highest raffled cue yet for the Tour. Thank you Wes, for supporting our tour
for the 11th year in a row! Julie Stephenson, who needed a new cue,
won the cue right before the finals. Luckily, her ankle was in a cast,
or else she would have been jumping around even more.
In the second chance tournament, 27 women were fighting for first place and
Julie Stiranak won her first second chance tournament. She earned $115.
Helen Hayes came in second winning $90 and Kim Pierce came in third
winning $70.
Mike Ross was on hand to tape matches for the ladies. We really appreciate
him visiting our Tour again! We'd also like to thank all of the new
members for coming and experiencing our tour. We will see everyone
again at Legends Billiards & Grill in Brenham, TX on September 25th-26th
for our next event.
