HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR Fifth Hunter Classics Stop visits Legend's Billiards in August.

Mindy Cohen welcomed the Hunter Classics Tour to her wonderful and spacious poolroom once again.  This year, 50 women came to play at Legend's Billiards in League City, Texas on August 9th and 10th.  This tournament was a WPBA Qualifier for the Coors Light WPBA Nationals and it was up for grabs by all the players.

David Moreno, a wonderful supporter of the Hunter Classics Tour, won the beautiful $1,900 Hunter Classics Custom Cue that was  raffled off right before the finals.  Congratulations, David!  We Hunter donates Hunter Classics Custom Cues to every stop which supports the success of the tour.  Thank you, Wes!

On Sunday morning, the remaining 12 in the main event represented many facets of the Hunter Tour:  previous tour stop winners, newcomers, improvers, and consistency players.  As the players dwindled down to half a dozen, it was anybody's guess of who would win the first place prize of $750 and the WPBA Qualifier.

Finishing a very respectable and impressive 9-12th place were all Texans:  Shayla Neris from Austin, Celeste Torres from New Braunfels, Terri Kelley from Dallas and Kim Pierce from Bastrop.  Finishing a great 7-8th place were Mindy William and Nicole Bacon, both from the Houston area.  5-6th place finishers, Jennifer Kraber and Rose McCrory, fought hard all weekend for their wonderful finish.  For 4th place, Leslie Anne Rogers defeated Deanna Henson.  Deanna won $250 for her excellent finish. Leslie Anne Rogers then played Lisa Marr to see who would get a chance to play Rachel Hurst in the finals.  It looked like Lisa all the way, but with a 5-2 lead Leslie caught up and turned the match into a nail biter for the crowd at 6-6.  Lisa Marr came out on top with Leslie winning $400 for 3rd place.  Leslie had already won a qualifier spot for the WPBA Nationals the previous weekend, so it came down to the last two ladies, Lisa and Rachel.

Rachel Hurst from Austin has been having a great year.  She has been placing consistently in every event she has played in and in this event she proved herself again.  Rachel started out having to play Amanda Lampert from San Antonio, then Julia Gabriel from Illinois.  Both of these players play exceptional, but Rachel prevailed winning 7-3, 7-4 respectively.  Then Rachel defeated Betina Yurkus from Louisiana, 7-2, then Mindy Williams, 7-1.  On Sunday, Rachel played Leslie Anne Rogers first.  This was the fifth time in five months these two have met on Sunday and this time Rachel won the match with very solid play by a score of 7-5.  Rachel then played Lisa Marr for the hotseat and defeated her 7-5 as well.

Lisa's road to the finals started out with wins over Andrea Wardell, 7-2, then Christina Laredo 7-1 and Suzanne Walkuski 7-2.  She had her hands full with Terri Kelley next but won 7-4.  On Sunday morning Lisa defeated Jennifer Kraber.  After losing to Rachel for the hotseat, and defeating Leslie 7-6 for the finals, Lisa was ready to play in the finals.  At this tournament last year she double dipped her opponent in the finals to win the tournament.  Could she do it again this year?  Yes.  She defeated Rachel 7-3 the first set and 7-2 the second set.

Lisa went home with $750 and the WPBA Qualifier and Rachel took home $550 for her wonderful finish.  Lisa was very excited after her win and wanted to give extra thanks to her sponsor Jones Brothers Pool Tables in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  Lisa commented after the tournament that she started her run of three wins last season with a double dip win in the 5th event of the season.  Her win at this stops rockets her up to 3rd place in the point standings.

In the second chance tournament, Kristin Haney defeated Andrea Wardell for the tournament win.  Kristin won $120 and Andrea won $90.  Amanda Lampert came in third and won $70 with Michelle Cortez winning $40 for 4th place.

Congratulations to all the ladies!
