On this summer-like weekend,
52 women showed up to play the first Hunter Tour of 1998! This stop
was held at Players Billiards, and we used 15 of their 8’ tables during
the day on Saturday and Sunday.
Hunter Classic logo towels
were given as prizes to anyone who made the 9 ball on the break.
The $1600 Hunter Custom made cue was bought by Tony Welch, owner of Players
Billiards. Susan and Dora raffled off a used Hunter cue (that was
played by many WPBA
pros) that helped pay for most of the Hunter Tour expenses. Thanks
Susan and Dora!
While June Walter was racing
through the winners bracket, regular Hunter Tour members got to reminisce,
and also make new friends. Fun was had by all, and we could all tell
that we couldn’t wait to see each other at the next tournament. A
big turn-out is exptected at the next stop in New Mexico, with women from
Texas planning to fly and even drive there! (Call Southwest
Airlines, they are having a special until Feb. 10th.)
Our special thanks to Wes
Hunter who donated another one of his beautifule custom made cue.
Thanks also goes to Tony Welch of Players Billiards who didn’t mind having
52 women in his establishment. Without Susan or Dora, this tour would
be non-existent. Next time you see them, tell them how much you appreciate
their dedication.

The second chance tournament
started off bright and early (for some of us) at 10:30 am with only 2 ‘bye’s.
Almost a full field for this so-called “little tournament!” (check
out the chart!) It was run smoothly, with matches
being played non-stop and only a rest for the players on the winner’s side.
When a rest between matches did occur, or when we unfortunately got knocked
out, we could rest on the sidelines and watch the Main Event... wishing
we were there... wishing we were playing as good as them! Asking
ourselves, “selves...why are we in the second chance tournament?”
Karen Boutin stole the second
chance event without losing a single match, carrying her through the winner’s
bracket to meet Susan Dasher for the finals. Karen went home with
$150 and a great day of pool playing!
